The buildings were built traditionally.

The mud, stones, and straw were the main ingredients used at that time, and also they were not building any fences around in the Ksours, but in the Kasbahs, they were building high and huge fences that are because kasbahs were like strongly defended forts on strategically placed high points all over the regions.

Not to mention that it is a vivid example of the southern Moroccan art and design in making buildings. Ait Ben Haddou was once a place of living for many families who succeeded to create a collective grouping of dwelling. It signifies that they were living as a unit.

There are buildings and community areas in the Ksar, and the Kasbah is crowded houses together with high angles towers decorated with motifs in clay bricks and engraved from the inside and outside. The oldest erection seems to be earlier than the 17th or so.

The construction materials used in the regular maintenance are still the same; mud, stones, and straw. Thanks to these maintenance control the village and the Kasbah are still fine.
